SharkSmart WA is the official source of shark activity information in Western Australia. In addition to providing this vital information, the app offers beach safety features such as Surf Life Saving WA patrolled beaches and weather forecasts, allowing beachgoers to plan their trips with peace of mind.
This app is designed to enhance your awareness of the ocean environment and help you exercise caution through its Sea Sense functionality. By delivering near real-time information about shark activity, including alerts and warnings, SharkSmart WA empowers users to make informed decisions regarding their water activities. Users can customize the app by selecting their favorite coastal locations and receiving relevant updates through notifications.
Key Features of SharkSmart WA:
- Map: Discover and save coastal locations with shark monitoring receivers, beach enclosures, and Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) signage. This feature allows users to stay up to date with recent shark activity in their favorite spots.
- Updates: Stay informed about shark activity with current alerts and warnings. The app prioritizes information based on proximity ("Nearby"), selected favorites ("Your Favorites"), and other locations, ensuring that you receive the most relevant updates first.
- Report: Utilizing location services, the app provides information about users' current coastal location. This data, along with a quick call link, facilitates timely reporting of shark sightings or whale carcasses (which are known to attract sharks) to Water Police.
